One of my favorite types of sessions is the extended family. Family reunions are a fantastic time to gather your loved ones for a family portraits session. Even if you have some family members missing from your reunion that year, it's still important to document who was there, how old they were, and what they looked like.
The Palmer family has a portrait session every summer, no exceptions, during their annual week-long family reunion. Grandma, of course, is the impetus behind this, as she places great value on current pictures of her 19+ grandkids {and counting!}. Â
I love shooting these types of sessions because each group is so dynamic. And what's more fun that having pictures taken with your cousins?
But we don't have to end with the grand group photo! Breaking it up into individual families and couples gives everyone the chance to have personalized family pictures while they are dressed up and in a pretty place.
And individuals are always part of the extended family session. Not only does Grandma want each child represented, it provided everyone with a new headshot to use wherever they need to.
With extended family sessions, I try to leave wiggle room in the timing of the session for creative and personal shots. Sometimes they are silly, sometimes they are candid, sometimes they spontaneous, but they are always awesome because they help showcase the personality of that particular family!
